MYTHICAL POWER is my top pick in a competitive field of developing 4 year olds. He was highly regarded in the Malibu but was making his first start off of a layoff. The 10th finish has been followed up by 2 bullet works, the barn is hot and improvement is expected as he stretches out to 2 turns.
RENDEZVOUS presents the turf to poly angle and while his poly abilities are uncertain at this level of competition, he may surprise. He should easily get the distance and may be a major threat for the win.
VISCOUNT steps up in class and presents the strongest late pace threat in the race, an ability that produces many poly winners at Santa Anita.
SMART BID was my top pick in the Malibu off of his previous 7 furlong win. A horse he beat in that race won the race on the front end and he may have been compromised by rating tactics against moderate early fractions. He also couldn't handle the class rise but on closer examination he ran OK. There is a question mark about the lack of published workouts but the trainer may be focused on building stamina so I will include him in my combinations.
PAPA CLEM looks like he is on the improve after his good 3rd place finish in the Malibu. He should get better with more distance but it is also worth noting that he is a bit win shy in his record to date.
