1 Mile (Turf) | Open | 3 Year Olds And Up
Updated: Sep-04-2009
Created: Sep-04-2009

By Jarrod Horak

The 12th race from Calder on September 5th is a flat mile optional claiming event for three-year-olds and up. Only 20% wire jobs at this distance as winning profile favors stalkers. Inside three posts best. The advanced weather forecast calls for a 60% chance of scattered thunderstorms.

#1 Mean Sax (4-1) has completed the exacta in his last three turf tries, and he was headed versus similar local foes last time. Could sit right stalking trip today.

#2 Baron Von Tap (5-2) lands the cozy rail and fits the winning course profile. Should save all the ground behind a few early runners.

#1A Dixie Matt (4-1) is stuck out in post 12, but he is a consistent turf performer and adds strength to the entry.

#7 Too Good (12-1) earned quality speed rating in local main track route win last time, and he was nabbed out of that heat by 32% claiming artist Herman Wilensky. He is winless in five turf outings. Likes a wet track should that come into play.

#4 Quistopher (6-1) likes to set the pace, but that style only wins 2 out of every 10 at this distance. He is 0-for-11 at a flat mile.

#5 Unbridled Heat (12-1) has the right stalking style, but rider is 0-for-46 on the lawn. Fringe player.

#6 Doctor Cal (8-1) has the talent to compete here, but he has not been seen in almost a year. I'll give him one.

#8 Bucket Head (15-1) likes to show speed, and there is plenty of that in this heat. Rider 30% on the weeds, and he goes 3rd off the shelf.

#11 Fair Weather Stan (12-1) make shis 2nd start off the shelf and seems the best of the late runners. Would not be shocked if he snuck into the trifecta.

#10 Proud Foolish (10-1) packs a decent late kick and can rally for a minor award.

#9 Orients Tune (30-1) did not fire in his two turf sprint starts. Has lost eight straight and seems overmatched.

#12 Nathan Ridge (6-1) is entered for main track only, and the late runner won a pair of races here in May.

The Plays: #1 to win, Exacta box 1-2, Trifecta 1-2/1-2-7-11/1-2-5-7-8-11
