This race is a battle of the cold jockeys, cold trainers and bottom barrel maiden claimers. A tough one to handicap with confidence.

Since there are very few angles to go on here, I’ll go with straight up speed figures and recent form.

First there’s Yukie’s Ridge, this horse actually did win a race on April 3, 2009 at big odds but was disqualified. Since that time he’s been in the money three times in a row. Perhaps, it’s time to graduate for this one. Arrango has been somewhat hot winning 6 of 25 races in the last 30 days.

Next choice is Olmodavors Best Bet this one finished 2.5 lengths behind the top choice and was the beaten favorite that race. Look for bigger odds today.

My third choice is Xcalak. This one is shipping in for the ever-dangerous Edward Plesa. After flashing some speed in his last at Tampa, perhaps a sneaky form reversal is in the cards.

Finally, I’m going with Bringithomebruce. Maidens that finish 2^nd in their initial races are dangerous. Although the trainer and jockey have been shooting blanks, the 60 Beyer speed rating is nothing to sneeze at. This one is primed for an improvement his second time out. Maybe he’s “born to run”.
