Case The Race - Handicapping data and information

Clocker Diary updated.

With Del Mar just around the corner it seems like a good time to update our horses to follow list.

1. Our unnamed Lenny Powell runner is still figuring things out. He gallops like a goof ball. His morning activity has not been stepped up much. Right now he is simply a horse with plenty to learn. I still feel strongly that turf is going to be his best surface. And his stride suggests two turns will also be in his future.

2. Capital Account has worked a couple of times since his impressive debut performance. Once at Santa Anita and once at Del Mar. Since I am stationed at Hollywood Park I have not seen either drill. I will update with Toby's thoughts before his next race.

3. Irlandesa Diva has disappointed recently in her a.m. activity. In one drill she actually ran off. There had been no evidence of this immaturity, so it was a surprise to see her act up like that. Needless to say she must learn to relax if she is going to have any sort of success when she gets to the races.

4. Scenic Blast has been in a holding pattern since his productive layoff effort. Believe he could offer a gambling opportunity at Del Mar. Will keep a close eye on him.

5. Yankee Station ran a monster second at large odds. My opinion on him was that he was going to need that race. I could not have been more wrong. Shirreffs had him ready to win. I'm almost thankful he was beaten. Losing out on a live 14-1 shot would have been tough to take. It will be interesting to see if he can improve off that big effort.

Closing day at Hollywood Park could prove to be a very valuable day. There were a few horses that had significant trouble that should be put in your stable mail.

1. Atta' Girl ran in the finale on Sunday. Polanco had this filly ready for a win. Toby had a key workout on her headed into that race. Unfortunately the trip did not unfold in her favor. The apprentice jockey Verenzuela never had the chance to get her clear from the rail. That cost her a chance at the win.

2. Code Buster ran a sneaky sharp effort in his debut for Brian Koriner. He drew the dreaded rail and his luck did not get better from there. He broke incredibly slow. Then encountered significant traffic issues when having plenty of run to show off in the late stages. No question this colt has talent. Add to that, Toby had positive comments about his physical looks heading into that debut. Expect a big step forward in second career start.

3. In that same race as Code Buster, we also had the Bobby Troeger runner McKenzies Way find his way into trouble. He could have been much closer at the finish but Rosario was unable to get clear of horses in the stretch. He ended up steadying on the heels of a wall in the final furlong.
