Monday May 17: MONTEREY JAZZ Remains aggressive and into the bit for Team Dollase. Rider did his best to keep him contained through the opening quarter mile in 24.80. When Monterey was given a little freedom he took off. Ripped home in 34.40. Final quarter in 22.80. Official clocking on my watch in 59.20. I think he has another monster effort in him. Have to also note that Zenyatta worked. She is still not back to her best in the a.m.. It has taken her some time to recover from shipping. Today Shirreffs asked her to get a little more serious. Aitcho (a good work horse), broke about 1.5 lengths in front. Zenyatta ended up dropping another length back on the turn. In the final furlong she was given some minor encouraging to get even. I had her in 1:13.00. It was not a breeze. Overall this drill was a step forward from her last drill. But by no means is she training with the same effortless power as she was before the Apple Blossom. It is important to understand that she does not need to be at her best right now. The Vanity is still a few weeks away. Sunday May 16: GIVEN EPISODE Two year old filly from the Jerry Hollendorfer barn boat raced some fellow two year olds from the gate. I missed the break from the blocks. When I picked her up she was already a zip code clear. Tyler guided her through the second quarter in 23.20. Definitely a filly that has some gas. Please take note of the change I made for the worker on May 13. There were some things in my notes that were not matching up with the young two year old I discussed - Royal Ancestry. Therefore, I am taking that horse off my list for now and adding Bogie. Saturday May 15: LA RAPIDEZ A three year old filly from the Conlon barn that has flashed talent. It seems clear that Melody has had some difficulties keeping this girl in top form. She disappeared for a month before returning to log a couple drills this month. On this day she chalked up a solid move over the cushion. Officially given credit for five furlongs, I had her coming home the final half mile in 24.80, 47.80. The final quarter in 23.00 has to be noted. She was doing some running in the lane. Friday May 14: HOLLOWEEN CANDY Became a fan of this filly before she debuted as a two year old. She never quite lived up to what I saw on the track early on. She is returning now and it appears like she has grown up. The drill from the gate today was explosive - 23.40, 46.20, 58.00 - rider never had to ask for a thing. Her biggest obstacle is going to be distance. I don't think she wants to run very far. I would love to see her tackle five furlongs on the grass at Del Mar. Wednesday May 12: DREAMED TO DREAM
