We have a gigantic day of training scheduled for this years 136th running of the Derby under the Twin Spires on Monday. As an added bonus, Rachel Alexandra will put in her final prep for Friday tomorrow as well. Looking like we wont be sure about who will be in the field this year until Tuesday at the earliest and maybe even Wednesday which is when the Derby will be drawn with those all important post positions assigned to all the starters. My sympathy goes out to all the connections of Eskendereya who wont make the starting gate----I have bred and raced many horses as an owner in California and can't even imagine how this blow must feel---to get that far with all the expectations----Todd's sense of humor with the scribes was intelligent and refreshing in the face of the news. However, this game is built on hope--the show must go on--I hope Mr. Zayat whom I have met on several occasions doesn't let this damper his passion for the sport. As for the action on the track this morning, Dublin was the lone worker and his move was a bit strange to say the least. Let me just say that the positive was the way he looked full of himself finishing in deep stretch by trouncing his stablemate Luv Guv by open lengths. The confusing or perplexing part is that for 2 weeks in a row now he hasn't done what Derby winners need to do and that is make no mistakes. He was bearing out quite a bit and seemed to ignore the commands from the rider for most of the work. A big kudos to all the folks at Churchill Downs for allowing us to see this work with your newly installed lighting system---this is our chance to get new fans and make them feel part of the game by allowing all an opportunity to see the horse they want to win without seeing a blur zip by in the dark. Of course, as a full time morning scout I hope all tracks follow suit---the time is now!!! Tomorrow---Lookin At Lucky-American Lion-Line Of David-Interactif and the brilliant filly Rachel Alexandra----hope I get a good nights sleep because this is what I call entertainment. Toby Turrell
