Only "7" Days Left To Train for 136th Ky Derby

Today was a busy day for Oaks fillies as they worked at 3 different tracks and outnumbered Derby runners on the workout tabs across the country 3 to 1. First and foremost, I received a phone call from Donald Harris who is stationed each morning at Hollywood Park with a quote "the freak just worked like a freak"-----no not Zenyatta but Blind Luck!!!!----For the rest of the story you can look across the page to BULLET POINTS and get some more info. soon. Across town I witnessed the Ashland winner Evening Jewel go 5f with splits of 12.2---23.4---47.2---59.2 over the Pro Ride surface at Santa Anita while kept well in hand all the way.

The work was nice but she did take a real long slow walk back to the barn with some wetness throughout her coat. The rest of the fillies worked at CD in the slop. By the way, why am I reading all this stuff about the track being o.k. after just a few hours of rain and trainers moving their works up to beat tomorrows rain. Again, lets remind all out there that NO surface escapes the reality of rain and how it might change the conditions for training and racing. Quiet Temper worked with splits of: 13.2---26.4---39---51.3---103.3---out in 116.3 for D. Romans off her win in the Fairgrounds Oaks. Crisp works for J Sadler in a team with recent stakes winner Mona De Momma thru splits of:
12.4---25.3---38---50.1---102---114.3 out in 128.2 while a bit rank in the early stages she finished fine enough. Jody Slew caught the eye going 12.1---24.2---36.1---48.2---out in 101.1 for B Calhoun. Todd Pletcher's Ailalea is on the bubble to get into the body of the race and went 12.2---24.2---36.2---48---100 out in 114. As for the 2 Derby colts, Paddy o Prado stole the show going 12.1---23.3---35---46.2---58.2 out in 111.2 and 125.3 with a triple gallop out mile of 141.2.....The grey has caught the eye galloping all week and is obviously thriving off his training. Nick Zito loved his work on Ice Box according to the scribes--he ripped thru splits of 11.3---22.4---34.4---46.2 out in 59.3 over the sloppy sealed track. Note to Jennie Rees of the Courier Journal who was on HRTV today on Raceday Across America---the 2 Maker colts arent at CD yet--they are still up the road at the training center----I wish they were on the grounds!!!!!!!!!-----Toby Turrell
