Setsuko Works at Santa Anita

I can tell by watching hall of fame trainer Richard Mandella each morning on the quad at Santa Anita that no one is more anxious then he is to know when his 3yo Derby hopefuls next race will be. Unfortunately, it appears that Setsuko will have to stay home here for the time being but the horse is thriving and developing by the day over the Pro Ride surface here so maybe it is all for the best. I liked what I saw from the colt today as he ran right by an older workmate named Futuro inside the 1/8 pole by several lengths en route to completing a real healthy 7f drill in 126.4----Setsuko will not leave our radar thru the Triple Crown series because I think we will be following a commodity here as time goes on. I did catch the last part of Lookin At Luckys workout on HRTV and all I can say is that there were at least 2 occasions and maybe more where the colt worked in my opinion BETTER over the Pro Ride then he did at CD.If nothing else--the final times and splits prove it on the watch regardless of my opinion visually. For those wanting further details---at SA on 1/16 I timed Lucky in 47.1--58.4 finishing-----on 3/28 I had 48.3-111.2-galloped out in 124.4.

My family will tell ya'all how stubborn I am so maybe that is why I continue to be amazed by this theory that the Baffert colt is doing better on dirt. I refuse to buy it---maybe he will prove it when it counts.......well see...

By reading and listening to the scribes I am starting to get the feeling that if I am right about this years Derby we are going to buck the trend of a shorter priced horse winning. Switching gears to the Oaks----lookout for Age of Humor who is trained by Mike Maker.

Loved what I saw on video from that filly but not going to put her or any other starter in the same league as Blind Luck just yet...

I dont think todays lone worker at CD factors in to my top 3 at the current time so we will call it a wrap til tomorrow -- Toby T.
