Race 7 is a 1st level allowance sprint for fillies and mares at 6F on the turf. Many of these are coming out of a common race from Nov. 5th where MISS SILVER BROOK finished best of the group with a big move from far back and just missed by a nose while earning a strong figure for the level. A repeat of that effort puts her right back in the thick of it again and she looks like she's rounding back into top form for Julio Canani. However, MAROMA could be in the position to turn the tables from her 4th place finish in that common race. She had the misfortune of chasing a very fast pace down the tricky Santa Anita turf sprint course and made a common mistake of jumping the dirt at the critical point near the top of the stretch where the turf chute crosses the dirt onto the main turf course. That was only Maroma's 2nd lifetime start and first time in Southern California so she still has lots of room to improve. She continued willingly to the wire and could appreciate the switch over to the Hollywood turf sprint course where her early speed can be more of a key and there will be no crossing over dirt to worry about. A switch to local top rider Bejarano is also a plus. DOTSY JEAN is a cheaper but hard trying filly who always makes her presence felt. She has 2 wins in 3 starts in the Hollywood turf sprints and seems to appreciate this trip a bit better than the Santa Anita course.
