Set a new track record in the Amsterdam but at 6 1/2, stretching back out should not be a problem. If not for a quarter crack he may have been one of the favorites in the Derby - Weather maybe an issue. (Read more…)

QUALITY ROAD (8/5) Pletcher charge already has a win for 1 start over the Saratoga main & his best dirt speed is fastest of these (BRIS 110 G2 Fountain of Youth). His return to action in the G2 Amsterdam was impressive especially after stumbling at the break & going 5 wide. My close 2nd choice is 6 SUMMER BIRD (3/1).

We tried to find a horse in this field to beat Quality Road and couldn't. The downside is that he'll be bet down to pennies on the dollar. -- Saratoga is rightfully known as the graveyard of favorites. Our Edge could come in with long odds.

Quality Road wins this if able to get trip with one sprint prep since March. Charitable Man sports 2 bullets and should offer value 2nd off shelf.

$1 Exacta: Quality Road over Kensei and Summer Bird

If Quality Road is the horse many think he is, this could be academic. Summer Bird and Kensei are talented enough to threaten.

Was one of the Derby favorites but got injured. Had impressive comeback race and looks ready to roll.

A G2 win and subsequent 5F work in 59.3 has Quality Road ready. Charitable Man won the Peter Pan in his second off a layoff. Kensei’s has two consecutive G2’s Saratoga route wins.

Talented colt didn't make the Derby but he is trying to make up for lost time and he is the one to beat.

Closely matched bunch figure to provide excitement in the SPA's signature race. Very slight edge to the morning line favorite QUALITY ROAD with KENSEI closing fast. Longshot OUR EDGE figures to set a blistering pace and may be worth a saver bet.

I thought Quality Road was the best 3 year old in America back in May. Now, in the mid-summer derby, he will get a chance to prove it.

If ANY early pace duel develops, Hold Me Back at ML of 15-1 is a closer play. A little hidden form helps too. Play for price!

Not only was this colt a soft pace victim in his only fast dirt start in the Remsen, he was wide throughout against a strong rail bias!

Kensei won the Jim Dandy impressively. He’s also 2 for 2 at the Spa. Can he catch Quality Road? Quality Road on paper he looks unbeatable. Can he hold off the closers?
