By Kristin Slape 5 CANNON’S CALL 6 TRIPLE CHECK 2 WEGGIE 3 SORREL OF THE SEA 5 CANNON’S CALL (3/1) CLOSER-gets top pick status over Weggie (who beat him last start) because he has won on the turf and at today’s distance, something Weggie has yet to do. With that said, this 3 YO gelded son of Mo Mon is a Mike Stidham trainee (105 20-16-10 19%) and a HFC (4 1-1-1). This will be his third try at the level/condition which is also a plus and after missing by just 1L last start vs similar, may be a threat right back today. 6 TRIPLE CHECK (9/2) PRESSER-very lightly raced 3 YO son of Out of Place hails from the 19% winning turf barn of Chris Block and has 1 win (Mdn 29K) over the AP turf for 3 starts and is another trying this condition for just the third time. Running style fits well here and may be a decent VALUE play. 2 WEGGIE (4/1) CLOSER-as mentioned above, this 3YO son of Behrens (and also a Chris Block trainee) ran a good 2nd last start vs similar to be 2nd best and beating my top pick, Cannon’s Call after finding his best stride late. Chris Emigh remains in the irons (turf 110 9%-40%). 3 SORREL OF THE SEA (7/2) STALKER-has the highest average racing speed of everyone in this field (BRIS 86), but that is on dirt-today this 3YO son of Yonaguska makes his turf debut for the barn of Louie Roussel who is (7 14%-43%) with turf debuts. The sire wins with FT turf progeny at only about 5%, however the dam, Vermillion Sea, a daughter of Boundary, wins at a decent 16% clip; still it is up to whether or not this son takes to the surface today; note that apprentice jock Mike Straight has been doing well the last 7 days (12 3-2-0) and is about 10% turf wins. ---- By Kristin Slape, check out my free handicapping shows at www.tracksidebroadcasting.com |
