Track Program
All tracks offer a daily program listing all the races at that track each day as well as any races offered via simulcast. Depending on the track, the program may or may not include the horses’ past performances, but they typically include the horses’ names, pedigrees, owner/trainer/jockey, color, age, and gender, the weight the horse will be carrying, any medication or changes in the horses equipment, and a brief overview of the horses’ career.
Past Performances
Past Performances -- offered by Equibase, Daily Racing Form, and other major handicapping outfits -- detail the dates and locations of all the races every entrant has run and their finishing position. These sources also provide the fractional times for each race, speed figures, number of lengths by which the horse won or was beaten, and statistics on the jockey and trainer.
Case the Race
Measures of horses’ athletic ability, derived from the process of equine biomechanics, are available through Case the Race. These measures show trends, allow for comparison between horses, and break down components of horse athleticism into four categories.
Tip Sheets
Sold outside and around the racetrack, tip sheets are offered by professional handicappers who bet horse races for a living and have a good win percentage. For a small fee, they sell information on their best bets of the day.
The Tote Board
The tote board keeps track of the betting odds on each horse and the odds on specific exotic bets as they change. This information is displayed in the track infields, as well as on all TV monitors and near the paddock. The odds on each horse are continuously updated in real time on the tote board.
