Case The Race - Handicapping data and information

19 Handicappers' Selections for the Belmont Stakes

For each of the Triple Crown races, Case The Race has published handicappers’ selections. After a Kentucky Derby result than none had predicted, the top pick among our group of handicappers went on to win the Preakness Stakes, followed by the second most selected horse.  Whereas the Kentucky Derby selections were spread across 8 different horses, and the Preakness Stakes selections were divided among 9 different horses, the Belmont Stakes comes down to basically 4 horses: Mine That Bird (6 win picks), Charitable Man (5) Chocolate Candy (4) and Dunkirk (3) – with a single holdout for Summer Bird (1). Handicapper Nico Kunaleah, of Wiredfigs commented, “Mine That Bird has come a long way from 50-1. He will prove his worth on Saturday.” Those who like Charitable Man emphasize his experience with the Belmont track. As Paul Lambrakis, author of 10 Cent Superfecta put it, “I believe in horses for courses and this new face just loves this track.”
Here is the breakdown for our 18 handicappers’ selections:

Only Mine That Bird (my fair odds: 6-5) and Charitable Man (my odds: 2-1) are morning-line overlays.  Charitable Man may offer greater final value.

We'll be using Mine That Bird first and second. We think Charitable Man and Dunkirk have a decent shot at the upset.

At Wiredfigs we are rooting for what we are calling "The Calvin Crown". Mine That Bird has come a long way from 50-1. He will prove his worth on Saturday.

I watched the Bird`s Preakness race and I am convinced that if he can get through on the rail, he will win the Belmont by 10.

It's a shame that he won't get a rematch against Rachael Alexandra this time. He's clearly the best of this field.

I believe in horses for courses and this new face just loves this track.
Charitable Man
Exacta:  2-6/2-6-7, cost $4.
John Lindley
Charitable Man appears to have some advantages here -- this is home track, he has excellent tactical speed and great timing into this race.
Charitable Man
Mine That Bird
Michael A. Gooley
Charitable Man has outstanding speed and won the G2 Peter Pan Stakes in big win style last out.  He has won 3 of 4 career starts and we expect another strong victory on Saturday to upset Mine That Bird.
Charitable Man
Summer Bird

A horse for the course with the other bird flying at the end.

Charitable Man catch me if you can!

Charitable Man gets the nod in a closely contested race. Mine That Bird runs out of steam late. Chocolate Candy can upset at a price.

You do not need an "expert" to tell you to take the 2-1 favorite Mine That Bird. Take a shot with our pick at 10-1

All three of these look like they can run forever.  Chocolate Candy gained in position and lengths from the 2nd call in 7 of 8 routes.  Looks the best of the three.

Chocolate Candy is doing very well as he's well prepared for a big effort. Garret Gomez on top will help his chances. He will be our top choice to upset the big favorite. Mine That Bird ran a huge race in the Preakness. He will be the one to beat. Brave Victory will be a nice play for the exotics. Don't dismiss.
Dunkirk
Dunkirk
Frank DiTondo
Pletcher following same training program for Dunkirk as used for Rags to Riches to win The Belmont. The filly had a 36 day layoff after winning The Oaks. Dunkirk will have a 37 day layoff after The Derby. Dunkirk's owner also part owners of Rags To Riches.
Dunkirk
Summer Bird
The Man In White
Stumbled early in the Derby & a sloppy track; so a bounce was acceptable. Longer distance and the rest will help.
Dunkirk

Dunkirk should rebound, I think he is a better horse than Mine That Bird.
Summer Bird
Ex/Tri Box 4-6-7, Summer Bird, Charitable Man, Mine That Bird
George Kaywood
Lots of closers will have a decent pace to chase. This one's all about the last fraction. Flyer: Charitable Man at 5-1 or better.
