Calder Race Course December 5 Race 8
Updated: Dec-04-2009
Created: Dec-04-2009
A field of eight fillies and mares go post ward in this highly contentious sprint affair. Any one of six has the ability to win this race so we’ll need to dig deep into the handicapping tool box to narrow down the most likely winner.

#6 Exclusive Woman (7-1) offers the most intriguing possibilities. This is her third trainer change in as many starts. Seems Hector Mackinze recognizes that this filly is much better on dirt and has her back there today where she is 7 for 11 in the $ at Calder. This is her second off the layoff and jockey Abel Lezcano (4 for 6 in the $ for Mackinzie) returns to ride. She will stalk just off the pace and with the drop from the mile look for a bit more punch in the stretch.

#7 Best Tigress (11-1) is an interesting long shot candidate. She’s been away since late September but has shown a proclivity to do well first off the vacation. She’s fond of Calder having won 2 of 3 and her works in the morning, though quite spaced, have been signaling all systems go. High percentage rider, Eibar Coa, takes the reins and expect a huge effort from this high-win percentage filly at a square price.

#5 Wyatt’s Women (7-5) is the obvious favorite by virtue of her three wins in a row at the sprint distance while producing solid figures. Jockey Luis Saez opts over #1 Asiatic Pearl and the precocious 3 year-old, #2 Margaret Smile. She is moving up a level where she has not been able to close the deal. Is game and will be around the money but way over bet.

#4 Boleyn (3-1) is a classy filly from big league connections that is racing for the first time since April. Works don’t really provide any clues. Looks like she may need this race though it is certainly a soft spot for her return. #2 Margaret Smile (7-2) will take a lot of money but I am concerned about this being her 6th race in nine weeks. Likes to pair wins, however, so not out of it but will let her beat me on the step up in class. #1 Asiatic Pearl (10-1) is a deep closer threat and, if the track comes up fast, could hit the bottom of the exotics. #3 Dubai’s Connection (15-1) needs the lone lead but won’t get it. #8 Min D’oro (12-1) will need more to impact here.

Win--#6 Exclusive Woman

Place--#7 Best Tigress

Show--#5 Wyatt’s Women
