CAPITAL ACCOUNT - Race 7 Hollywood Park

Capital Account is entered tomorrow at Hollywood Park in the seventh race. I am still unsure as to whether this guy is going to be better sprinting or routing. What I am confident of is the competitive nature he has displayed in his morning routine over the Hollywood Park track. I think he is a more complete runner than his competitor/stable-mate to his inside Global Domination. In his Hollywood drills Global Domination has been 100% speed. He turned in two 58.80 clockings from the gate at Hollywood on May 10th and May 17th. The important note on those drills in my mind was that Global acted like a manic speed ball and was ridden like he was in a race to complete both moves. I can't see Global doing anything else other than gunning for the lead today and hoping he can stick. I am going to be playing against him. I will acknowledge that Global Domination is a gate to wire threat. I simply did not fall in love with his fast a.m. times. The only runner I think has the same upside talent as Capital Account is the Mike Mitchell trained Gallatin's Run. This is a Jim Rome owned runner that is making his first start back since last year at Del Mar. Gallatin is a big, strapping gelding that has a load of raw ability. My only question with him is his overall fitness. The series has been a little light. Mitchell forced him to work hard in his last two preps. On June 12th he worked heads up (definitely second best) to the stakes caliber runner Tap It Light. In his next drill he asked for even more and it led to the bullet clocking while working solo. Gallatin definitely needed that work. He was getting tired in the final furlong.

The 9-2 morning line on Capital Account is very attractive. If I can get 4-1 or higher I will be making a win play on Capital. In the Pick 4 and Pick 6 I will force myself to use Gallatin's Run as well as Capital Account. Gallatin is a horse with enough talent to win despite not being 100% cranked. An exacta between Gallatin and Capital is not out of the question. Again, it all comes back to value. I have no interest in spending $2 on a $1 exacta box to get back $15. That is basically 6-1 odds and I do not hit at a high enough percentage to play that kind of bet in the long run and come out with a profit. I am not saying it is a bad play for everybody. I am saying it would simply be a bad play for me. If the public comes in heavy on Global Domination and creates an extra pocket of value then I will up my wager. If Capital becomes a 'buzz' horse and is bet down to 5/2 or 3/1, then I will sit on my hands and watch.

Will check back in no later than Monday.
