Championship Week Ahead
|
Updated: Jun-11-2010 Created: Jun-11-2010
The action for racing fans will begin tomorrow all across the country from coast to coast right through the weekend and into next week around the globe with Royal Ascot showcasing one of the best mares of all time in Goldikova who will try for an unprecedented Three Peat in the Breeders Cup later this year at Churchill Downs. I saw some recent footage of Goldikova winning her most recent start on HRTV and was blessed to see her live at this years unforgettable Cup at Santa Anita and I think she might be one of the greatest horses of all time moving towards the top of the list by the day. She is a freak!!!!!!---First things first, another one of the horses I fell in love with is Presious Passion after watching her train and race at the just concluded Santa Anita meetings. He is an amazing horse to watch train as he is machine like with ultimate power that comes from his massive frame and the way he glides over the ground every day allows one to understand how he could run perhaps the best race of the entire Cup on numbers running fractions over the turf you dont see in this life to often. Presious Passion runs at Monmouth Park in Race 10 with scheduled post at 5:20 ET. At Churchill Downs, horse of the year Rachel Alexandra runs in Race 6 with post at 3:26 ET and the pretigious Stephen Foster goes at 5:29 ET as race 10 featuring Blame for Al Stall Jr. as the likely choice with Garrett Gomez up. Belmont a week later keeps the action on Grade 1 high with the Ogden Phipps bringing out Unrivaled Belle going post at 2:36 ET as the 1-1 morning line favorite after defeating Rachel on Oaks Day but she needs this win to earn Gr 1 status as a mare. Perhaps the thing to watch closely is that she gets to the gate without losing her composure as she did when she shipped West to SA explaining her running 4th in the La Canada. Oh yeah--here at home over the Pro Ride at SA--Lookin at Lucky is blossoming by the day and has returned to the worktab with a 37 flat blowout with a smiling Martin Garcia in the saddle on Thursday.
Zenyatta in Sunday at Hollywood Park looking to make history
The biggest piece of immediate history can be made of course at Hollywood Park on Sunday where the unbeaten mare Zenyatta will look to take her career further into the history books by surpassing the recent champs Cigar and old champs Citation's immortal longest winning streaks at 17. Anyone who can make it to the track of lakes and flowers in Inglewood will receive a collectors item when they are handed the "Zenyatta Bobblehead" as you walk thru the turnstile Sunday. Zenyatta will run in the Vanity a Grade 1 in So Cal which goes as Race 8 on what we all hope is a record breaking historical day in racing.
I am here watching all of Bafferts new crop of youngsters train on for the future here at the Great Race Place and we will be looking for the Lucky's of the future right here into Del Mar the ultimate summer resort and destination. A reminder--CASETHERACE radio can be heard over this website beginning at 9:00 PT and all week long under the ARCHIVE section on the RADIO. Our show airs each and every Saturday morning and thus far we have had a star studded guest list in our short time on the air. Again--you can here all these shows in their entirety under the RADIO section here on Case anytime as they are all archived in order. Thats the menu for this Championship Week--hope ya'all cash some tickets and enjoy some great races all over the world!!!!! Toby Turrell
