Zenyatta edging closer
|
Updated: Apr-06-2011 Created: May-31-2010
Friday May 28: ABSOLUTE MAGNITUDE New face from the Jeff Bonde barn flashed some early zip from the blocks. Speedy impression by the wire - 23.80 - dealt with some traffic issues on the turn - 47.40 - then set down for best the final furlong - 59.40. Probably a horse that will make an impact if he can find the right debut spot. Saturday May 29: GALLATIN'S RUN Always happy when I see a Jim Rome owned horse train strongly. I'm assuming this was a barn transfer because this horse used to be with Puype. The official clocking reads 36.60. The significant part of this drill came on the gallop out. Check out these splits - 48.40, 1:00.40, 1:13.20, 1:26.40 - rider never asking Gallatin to quicken. This was a legit gallop out. Obviously there have been issues trying to keep this guy sound. I would suspect if Team Mitchell can get him up to a return race the right way he will be super tough to beat. Loads of talent evident. Sunday May 30: GOOD VIBRATION Three year old filly broke in front of one speed maiden runner Isle of Prado. Vibration remained into the bit every step of the drill and wanted to quicken when joined by the pressured Prado nearing the wire. Ran out with keen interest. I had her going seven furlongs in 1:27.80. Tons best in company. For those that like to do tape work. Take a look at her last effort. Thought for a second Bejarano was going to ease this girl because they completely fell out of the picture. Watch the way she gallops out. This girl has no clue what she is doing yet. Upside evident. Monday May 31: VICTORY DASH Gray filly from the Solis barn has put together a consistent, solid series of drills for her return. Today she turned in a handy gate move. Rider let her do most of the work on her own as she gradually ran further clear of an outgunned work-mate. Would like to see her stick to sprinting. Zenyatta turned in a leisurely six panel team drill for her second to last drill before the Vanity. She was never more than two lengths back of target El Vino. Seemed to be in a jogging tempo as she edged clear late. Tapped a couple of times on the shoulder in the final sixteenth. Galloped out in a healty manner. Nothing eye gouging. Not asked to do much.
