14 Handicappers Picks for the Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic
|
Updated: Nov-05-2009 Created: Nov-05-2009
Rainbow View got the nod from 6 handicappers, the highest number in our survey of handicappers’ picks for the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic. Our current guest commentator for Oak Tree at Santa Anita, Carl M, said she is “certainly a big play if she can handle the synthetic track.” Careless Jewel had the second highest number with 4 handicappers favoring her to win. “Rainbow View will be the rabbit in this race to try to steal it on the front end, but as they turn for home, the heat will be on as several horses will be coming on strong,” commented Mike DeAngelo of APlus Thorobred who selected Careless Jewel to win. From Post Time Computer, the Man in White also selected Careless Jewel, saying that her “last poly race dominated the field and her last 3 dirt races have been spectacular. “ Right behind Careless Jewel, Music Note won over 3 handicappers. John T. of Tripcapper explained why he selected Music Note to win. “After fighting a stiff bias in her 4YO debut, Music Note has simply been razor sharp for Godolphin leading up to her seasonal goal today!” Handicapper, Bob Pandolfo stood alone with his selection of Life Is Sweet to win. According to Pandolfo, Life Is Sweet, “had too much to do in the Lady Secret, which had a slow pace. It was her first loss in 4 starts at Santa Anita, so she loves the Pro Ride. She has also excelled at this 9 furlong distance winning both of her starts this distance and surface with powerful finishes.
Although none of the handicappers selected Proviso to win, 4 handicappers – Johnny Jupitur, Kevin Stafford, Frank DiTondo and Cwayne mentioned the underdog as a possible play.
Here is the breakdown of the handicappers’ selections.

This filly was a huge winner in her last in Ireland as she came up with some big speed numbers. A few races back, she lost to Goldikova. She will need to run somewhere close to that race to be a big factor in this spot. Certainly a big play if she can handle the synthetic track.

Music Note, Carless Jewel, and Rainbow View all look live here, but don't totally overlook Proviso at 8/1 or Lethal Heat at 20/1, as each offer value on the board.

Has been racing against much better in Europe but will need a pace duel to run at which might not happen if #1 Careless Jewel gets off alone.

Careless Jewel has been working well and has a bullet workout only a week ago. Proviso at 12 to 1 morning line looks to finish in the money.

Careless Jewel's last poly race dominated the field and her last 3 dirt races have been spectacular. Going for the lead & holding off all contenders. Cocoa Beach will lay off the pace and try to make her normal closing run.

Music Note comes 3rd off lay off in form cycle and has run well over the trace. She has the tactical speed to keep Careless Jewel within reach. Life Is Sweet could benefit if the early pace is too fast and will be closing fast at the end. I would expect her to pick off one of the top two at the finished and a win would not be a shocker.

Music Note looks much the best. Only knock is 4th place finish @OSA and possibly the poly surface. Proviso with Johnny V. is a contender here.

Had too much to do in the Lady Secret, which had a slow pace. It was her first loss in 4 starts at Santa Anita, so she loves the Pro Ride. She has also excelled at this 9 furlong distance winning both of her starts this distance and surface with powerful finishes. MUSIC NOTE could get a nice trip stalking speedster CARELESS JEWEL so I’ll use MUSIC NOTE in an exacta box. MUSIC NOTE ran well in this race laset year while 5 wide and comes into this race in career peak form.

Superb commentary and analysis from all. For money I see Lethal Heat as the possible upset. 2nd to Zenyatta last out and superb workouts leading up to this. Alex Solis will get her up for the win. |
