Travers Stakes Handicappers Favor Quality Road: 17 Handicappers' Selections
|
Updated: Aug-29-2009 Created: Aug-28-2009
An overwhelming 11 out of 17 handicappers named Quality Road to win the Travers stakes this weekend. “If not for a quarter crack he may have been one of the favorites in the Derby,” said a handicapper from our current team of commentators for Saratoga, Saratoga Green. Our Del Mar commentator, Cwayne of Picks and Plays added, “We tried to find a horse in this field to beat Quality Road and couldn't. The down side is that he'll be bet down to pennies on the dollar.”
Two distant runners up, Hold Me Back and Summer Bird were selected to win by two handicappers each. One pick for Charitable Man and one for Kensei completed the list.
People who like longshots may take a look at Our Edge. According to Mike DiAngelo, of A Plus Thorobred, “Longshot Our Edge figures to set a blistering pace and may be worth a saver-bet.” Also, with Saratoga’s reputation for bringing down favorites, Cwayne noted that not even a heavily favored favorite is safe. “Saratoga is rightfully known as the graveyard of favorites. Our Edge could come in with long odds.”
Here is the breakdown of the 17 handicappers’ selections.

Set a new track record in the Amsterdam but at 6 1/2, stretching back out should not be a problem. If not for a quarter crack he may have been one of the favorites in the Derby - Weather maybe an issue. (Read more…)

QUALITY ROAD (8/5) Pletcher charge already has a win for 1 start over the Saratoga main & his best dirt speed is fastest of these (BRIS 110 G2 Fountain of Youth). His return to action in the G2 Amsterdam was impressive especially after stumbling at the break & going 5 wide. My close 2nd choice is 6 SUMMER BIRD (3/1).

Quality Road wins this if able to get trip with one sprint prep since March. Charitable Man sports 2 bullets and should offer value 2nd off shelf.

If Quality Road is the horse many think he is, this could be academic. Summer Bird and Kensei are talented enough to threaten.

A G2 win and subsequent 5F work in 59.3 has Quality Road ready. Charitable Man won the Peter Pan in his second off a layoff. Kensei’s has two consecutive G2’s Saratoga route wins.

Closely matched bunch figure to provide excitement in the SPA's signature race. Very slight edge to the morning line favorite QUALITY ROAD with KENSEI closing fast. Longshot OUR EDGE figures to set a blistering pace and may be worth a saver bet.

I thought Quality Road was the best 3 year old in America back in May. Now, in the mid-summer derby, he will get a chance to prove it.

Kensei won the Jim Dandy impressively. He’s also 2 for 2 at the Spa. Can he catch Quality Road? Quality Road on paper he looks unbeatable. Can he hold off the closers?

Footwork is one of the most important skills when playing netball. It makes sense to wear cheap air jordans that will give you safety and comfort. General sports or running shoes are not going to be adequate for the particular needs of the netball court. So if you're serious about performing to the best of your ability, here's some tips to help you find the perfect ,Movement. Think about your motion during netball practices and games: a lot of running and quick Jordan James, lateral movements and sudden changes in direction. The support your shoe offers needs to reflect these air Jordan 3.5 of motion. Regular running shoes are designed for straightforward motion, providing support that focuses on your heels and toes. Netball shoes need to offer an all-round support as well as maximum air Jordans 13 and cushioning for the sides of your feet.Stability. When you're jumping and stop-starting often, you're going to want a shoe that can handle the conditions. When you catch the netball and pivot, you want to know that your shoe is going to support you and keep your balance.Outsole. Running air Jordans 11 need to be flexible, especially in the area under your forefoot. not so with air maxl shoes. The outsole needs to be able to be punished by the court or asphalt of the netball court. For this reason it needs to be stiffer and thicker than a regular air max 2009 shoe. Often the souls of netball air Jordans 23 will be made of a different material altogether than regular running shoes - a harder compound of rubber. |

Quality Road could be a giant, but coming off a 6 1/2 fur to a 1 1/4 mile race is a giant leap as well, no mater how good he is, the rest of this field are a tough bunch. My pick, Charitable Man, Kensei, Quality Road in that order. Was a shame, Mine that Bird had to miss this race, I think he would of had a shot. |

I notice the first handicapper recommends front and back wheeling Quality Road, that`s an interesting strategy! I doubt you will pay for the meal at Siro`s using a fairly heavy fave this way. But you may just cash a ticket. Why not box the field, hard to miss the cashier that way. |
